Personal Information
Ms. Slavik joined Virginia Tech in June 2004 as Superintendent of the Southwest
Virginia Aquaculture Research and Extension Center in Saltville, Virginia.
Prior to her employment at Virginia Tech, she had been the Agriculture Outreach
Coordinator at Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC). At VHCC, she developed
a horticulture curriculum linking high school horticulture courses to a baccalaureate
degree by use of community college courses. Ms. Slavik also worked on grant
funding projects to strengthen and expand the agriculture curriculum at the
community college and local high schools through development of dual enrollment
opportunities in aquaculture. Ms. Slavik received her BS in Agriculture Education
from Virginia Tech in 1981. After graduation she worked as a middle school
agriculture instructor for 2 years, then worked with the United States Department
of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency for 17 years before returning to Virginia
Tech to obtain her MS in Career and Technical Education while working in post-secondary
agriculture education.
