New Hatchery Manager at VSAREC
Brendan Delbos was recently hired as the marine hatchery manager for
the Virginia Seafood AREC in Hampton, Virginia. He is moving to the area
from western Massachusetts and is joined by his wife, Rachel, and daughter,
Rebecca.
Before joining the team in Hampton, Brendan managed hatchery
operations for Fins
Technology, located in Turner’s Falls, MA. While at Fins Technology, Brendan
helped evaluate commercial potential of over a dozen marine and freshwater species
of fish. More recently Brendan was employed as the zebrafish facility manager
for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
“Mr. Delbos brings a wide array of expertise in marine finfish culture,
which will significantly enhance mariculture programming at the VSAREC. Initially,
he will work on our prioritized Cobia production initiatives, which include implementation
of new replicated research systems for this summer’s research collaboration
with both national and international research and industry partners,” said
Michael Schwarz, VSAREC aquaculture specialist. Mr. Delbos’ research goals
are industry oriented with a focus on development of efficient, cost effective
hatchery protocols. Brendan holds a B.S. in Marine Science from Southampton College
and a Master’s degree in Aquaculture from Louisiana State University.
