Food Science & Technology
The
Virginia Tech Food Science and Technology Department has several in-house
and associated laboratories, as well as pilot plants to support department
research and extension activities. The general laboratories include microbiological
facilities that are equipped for human pathogen research and chemistry laboratories.
The specialized laboratories include facilities where equipment is available for residue analysis; gas chromatography/liquid chromatography-mass spectropscopy; proximate and elemental analysis; scanning and transmission electron microscopy; and DNA analysis. Pilot laboratories include facilities for smoking, freezing, drying, thermal processing, and production of further processed products.
